Breeds

Five breeds, plus a mix

Each breed shapes both the sound of the name and the epithet it tends to earn. Pick one to match your demon, or browse Any.

Infernal

Burning, brimstone names of fire and the pit, like Belzoth the Defiler or Vexrakh Ashmaw.

Abyssal

Guttural, jagged names of raw chaos and hunger, like Xulgaroth the Ravenous or Thrakogg Voidmaw.

Umbral

Sibilant, sunless names of void and shadow, like Nyxithae the Unseen or Vaelyss Nightgaze.

Plague

Festering, wet names of rot and pestilence, like Quelush the Unclean or Necrosh Rotblight.

Blood

Visceral, savage names of carnage and the altar, like Gorvakh the Flayer or Skarnoth Bloodmaw.

Naming tips

Making a demon sound dreadful

Let the breed lead

The breed shapes the sound, so an Umbral name hisses while a Blood name snarls. Match it to your fiend's nature and the plane it crawled out of.

Use temperament for the title

Set Temperament to Elder for old titles like the Forsaken, Tyrant for dread ones like the Pitlord, or Savage and Cursed for compound names like Bloodmaw.

Refine, don't restart

Found a name you love but the wrong title? Choose it, hit Refine, lock the name and shuffle the title instead.

Demon name generator FAQ

Yes. You can generate unlimited demon names for free, with no sign-up. Copy or save any you like and use them however you want.
Absolutely. The names suit demons, devils, fiends and other lower-planar beings in D&D 5e, Pathfinder and most fantasy RPGs. Pick a breed, generate, and drop your favourite onto the stat block.
Each breed shapes the sound and the epithet. Infernal leans burning and brimstone, Abyssal guttural and hungry, Umbral sibilant and sunless, Plague festering and rotten, and Blood visceral and savage. Leave it on Any for a mix, or pick one to match your fiend.
Temperament leans the epithet. Elder favours old titles like the Forsaken, Tyrant favours dread titles like the Pitlord, and Savage and Cursed favour compound names like Bloodmaw or Ashbrand. Leave it on Any for a spread.
Yes. Turn off Include title in Options for the bare invented name, or use Refine on a chosen name to swap just the title while keeping the name.
The given name is built from sound pieces chosen for each breed, then checked so it stays pronounceable and free of awkward clusters or repeats. That means you can generate endless original names rather than picking from a fixed list.
Yes, for stories, comics, video games, streams and other creative projects. Generated names are not trademarked here, but for a major commercial title it is sensible to do a quick search to make sure your chosen name is not already strongly associated with something else.
No. Each batch is checked against the names you have already seen this visit, so you can generate again and again without repeats. Use Previous to step back to an earlier batch.
