Wild

Naming tips

Making an orc sound like a threat

Say it out loud

Orc names live in the mouth. Pick something hard and short that a chieftain could bark across a war camp.

Earn the surname

Set Register to Warname for a deed-name like Bonecrusher, Clan for a horde such as of the Red Maw, or Bloodline for old blood.

Refine, don't restart

Found a first name you love but the wrong war-name? Choose it, hit Refine, lock the first name and shuffle the rest.

Orc name generator FAQ

Yes. You can generate unlimited orc names for free, with no sign-up. Copy or save any you like and use them however you want.
Absolutely. The names suit orc, half-orc and warband NPCs in D&D 5e, Pathfinder and most fantasy RPGs. Pick a kind, generate, and drop your favourite onto the character sheet.
Each kind is a flavour rather than a strict rule. War leans on iron and battle, Wild on beasts and the frontier, Grey on the grim old hordes, and Spirit on shamans, totems and smoke. Leave it on Any for a mix, or pick one to match your warband.
Open Options and set Gender to Masculine or Feminine. Leaving it on Neutral gives a mix of both. First names are drawn from the matching pool for the kind you chose.
Register changes the kind of surname you get. Common gives a plain name, Warname adds an earned deed such as Bonecrusher, Clan adds a horde or banner like of the Red Maw, and Bloodline uses older blood-forms. Leave it on Any for a spread.
Surnames are included by default. Turn them off in Options for first names only, or use Refine on a chosen name to swap just the surname while keeping the first name.
Yes, for stories, comics, video games, streams and other creative projects. Generated names are not trademarked here, but for a major commercial title it is sensible to do a quick search to make sure your chosen name is not already strongly associated with something else.
No. Each batch is checked against the names you have already seen this visit, so you can generate again and again without repeats. Use Previous to step back to an earlier batch.
