Kinds

Five kinds, plus a mix

Each kind shapes both the sound of the name and the landform it tends to take. Pick one to match your setting, or browse Any.

Alpine

High snowy peaks and stony ridges of crag and cloud, like Mount Stonehorn or the Greycrag Range.

Volcanic

Fire mountains of ash and ember, smoking cones and burning ridges, like Mount Emberfell or Ashspire.

Coastal

Sea cliffs and headland peaks of salt and gull, rising straight from the tide, like the Saltcliff Range or Cape Stormhead.

Desert

Bare sun-baked mesas and red rock buttes of dust and heat, like Redmesa or the Sandspire Range.

Frozen

Glacial summits and ice horns of rime and white, like Mount Frostfang or the Rimewall Range.

Naming tips

Making a mountain sound real

Let the land lead

The kind shapes the sound, so an Alpine peak sounds like crag and cloud and a Volcanic one like ash and ember. Match the name to the rock, fire or ice the mountain is actually made of.

Use the landform

Set the Landform to Peak for a single mountain, Range for a chain of them, Pass for the way through, or Summit for the high point a story climbs toward.

Refine, don't restart

Found a name you love but the wrong title? Choose it, hit Refine, lock the name and shuffle the landform instead.

Absolutely. The names suit peaks, ranges, passes and summits for worldbuilding in D&D 5e, Pathfinder and most fantasy settings. Pick a kind, generate, and drop your favourite onto the map.
Each kind shapes the sound and the flavour. Alpine leans to crag and cloud, Volcanic to ash and ember, Coastal to sea cliffs and salt, Desert to red rock and dust, and Frozen to ice and rime. Leave it on Any for a mix, or pick one to match your setting.
The Landform sets how the name is framed. Peak gives single mountains like Mount X, Range gives chains like the X Range, Pass gives ways through like the Pass of X, and Summit gives high points like the Heights of X. Leave it on Any for a spread.
Yes. Turn off Include landform title in Options for the bare name like Stormcrag, or use Refine on a chosen name to swap just the form while keeping the mountain name.
Each name is built from a stem, either invented from sounds chosen for the kind or drawn from an evocative root, plus a landform suffix, then checked so it stays pronounceable. That means you can generate endless original mountain names rather than picking from a fixed list.
Yes, for stories, comics, video games, streams and other creative projects. Generated names are not trademarked here, but for a major commercial title it is sensible to do a quick search to make sure your chosen name is not already strongly associated with something else.
No. Each batch is checked against the names you have already seen this visit, so you can generate again and again without repeats. Use Previous to step back to an earlier batch.
