How it works

From blank sheet to the right name in three steps

No sign-up, no cost. Everything runs in your browser and your saved names stay on your device.

  1. Step one

    Pick a heritage

Lean Elven for grace, Human for grounded roots, or Balanced for the classic mix. Leave it on Any for a spread.

  2. Step two

    Set the details

Open Options to choose gender, register, how many names you want, name length and whether to include surnames.

  3. Step three

    Keep your favourites

Copy any name, save the ones you like, or refine a name into close variations until it feels right.

Heritage

Two parents, one name

A half-elf carries both lines. Choose how far the name leans toward either parent, or let Any draw from all three.

Elven

Graceful, melodic names that lean to the elven parent, like Aelar Moonweaver or Caelia Starwhisper.

Balanced

The classic mix of an elven given name with a grounded family name, like Caelin Ashvale or Maren Greywind.

Human

Plain, believable names that lean to the human parent, like Edmund Brightwater or Cora Ashford.

Naming tips

Making a half-elf feel like a person

Let the lean tell a story

An Elven-leaning name hints at a character raised among elves; a Human-leaning one suggests the opposite. Balanced sits comfortably in either court.

Use register for rank

Set Register to Noble for houses and courts, Wayfarer for those between two homes, or Ancestral to nod back to a parent's line.

Refine, don't restart

Found a first name you love but the wrong surname? Choose it, hit Refine, lock the first name and shuffle the rest.

Yes. You can generate unlimited half-elf names for free, with no sign-up. Copy or save any you like and use them however you want.
Absolutely. The names suit half-elf player characters and NPCs in D&D 5e, Pathfinder and most fantasy RPGs. Pick a heritage, generate, and drop your favourite onto the character sheet.
Each heritage sets how much a name leans toward one parent. Elven names are graceful and melodic, Human names are plain and grounded, and Balanced is the classic mix of an elven given name with a human family name. Leave it on Any for a spread across all three.
Open Options and set Gender to Masculine or Feminine. Leaving it on Neutral gives a mix of both. Half-elf names often read well across genders, so feel free to use whichever sounds right for your character.
Register changes the kind of surname you get. Common gives plain family names, Noble adds houses and courts, Wayfarer leans earthy and on-the-road, and Ancestral nods back to a parent's line. Leave it on Any for a spread.
Surnames are included by default. Turn them off in Options for first names only, or use Refine on a chosen name to swap just the surname while keeping the first name.
Yes, for stories, comics, video games, streams and other creative projects. Generated names are not trademarked here, but for a major commercial title it is sensible to do a quick search to make sure your chosen name is not already strongly associated with something else.
No. Each batch is checked against the names you have already seen this visit, so you can generate again and again without repeats. Use Previous to step back to an earlier batch.
